Peter Schreiner appointed Research Librarian for Design

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Schreiner to the position of Research Librarian for Design in the Harrye B. Lyons Design Library.

Working with College of Design faculty and students, Pete Schreiner will develop and deliver research support, instruction, and workshops on library resources and on emerging digital tools and resources in areas such as visualization and virtual and augmented reality, and plan and deliver outreach and engagement programs and activities such as orientations, special events, and tours. He will lead and coordinate services that facilitate the use of visual resources and digital image collections and manage the Design Library Digital Image Collection, a database of 150,000 images.

Schreiner joined NC State as an NCSU Libraries Fellow in 2016. In that role, he has led the Libraries’ virtual reality (VR) program for the Learning Spaces & Services department. He has designed and delivered innovative and impactful library services in an interdisciplinary environment while developing a nationally recognized VR program. Schreiner has developed the staffing model, room layouts, management workflows, and documentation, and coordinated with many departments and systems to smoothly integrate VR services into existing services.

In a short time, his work has made the Libraries a leader of this movement, as VR is being adopted for academic use across campus. Schreiner has been invited to the University of Oklahoma’s Innovation Hub to participate in a national forum about how libraries can support emergent uses of digital 3D objects and VR and has been featured in articles about the Libraries’ VR program in Library Journal and American Libraries magazine.

Schreiner earned the Master of Library Science at Emporia State University and the Bachelor of Fine Arts with concentration in Photography from Indiana University, Bloomington. He has served as Assistant Archivist in the Lewis and Clark College Special Collections and Archives and as the Moving Image and Photo Intern for the Oregon Historical Society Library.
